Project overview

Client: XylemSector: water technology / enterprise / utilitiesModel:IT outsourcingArea: API / OIDC / AWS / integrations

Edge One Solutions supported Xylem by providing IT specialists responsible for API standardization and consolidation of application access mechanisms.

The project included preparing cloud and on-premises solutions, integrating selected applications, normalizing data, and migrating data between existing and target solutions.

Tools and technologies used

  • Challenges

Our client's contractors use a platform that consolidates applications from different vendors. Historically, there have been several access mechanisms, each mechanism providing only selected applications. This complicates the addition of new applications/vendors.

Additionally, some application vendors use more than one of the authorization methods offered by the platform, which generates redundant work during system integration and increases the consumption of server resources. Consolidation was necessary, which was supposed to result in savings in platform maintenance costs.

  • Solution

API standardization was performed using the latest standards, including OIDC), then the target cloud solution and on-premise version were prepared in line with the demanding Asian markets.

Selected applications were integrated with the target solution, and data normalization and migration between solutions were also performed.

  • Project significance for enterprise integration and access management

In enterprise environments, multiple applications developed by different providers often lead to fragmentation of access, authorization, and integration mechanisms.

The Xylem project shows how API standardization and authorization consolidation can simplify onboarding new applications, reduce duplicated integration work, and lower infrastructure load.

For organizations managing large application ecosystems, a similar approach can support greater architectural consistency, more secure access management, and lower platform maintenance costs.
