Proof of Concept for Data Packet Processing - Edge One Solutions

Proof of Concept for High-Performance Data Packet Processing in Hitachi Energy’s System

Hitachi Energy case study

Edge One Solutions supported Hitachi Energy in developing a Proof of Concept for a modernized data packet processing system. The goal of the project was to significantly improve system performance, implement AMQP support, develop proxy functionality, and prepare a test environment based on Docker and virtual machines.

  • Challenge

Hitachi Energy was working on a modernization initiative for a system responsible for processing data packets. The existing solution did not meet the expected performance requirements — its architecture limited processing speed and made further system development more difficult.

One of the main goals was to prepare a Proof of Concept that would increase processing performance from approximately 50 to approximately 600 packets per second. The project also required the implementation of new proxy functionality, AMQP support, and compatibility with the existing system library.

An additional challenge was the preparation of a complete test environment. This included the configuration of multiple virtual machines and services required to verify the solution in conditions similar to the target architecture.

  • Scope of work by Edge One Solutions

Edge One Solutions was responsible for preparing a technical Proof of Concept designed to confirm whether the modernized system could achieve the required performance level while remaining compatible with existing components.

    The scope of work included:

    · analysis of current performance limitations,
    · preparation of the Proof of Concept architecture,
    · implementation of AMQP support,
    · development of proxy functionality,
    · integration with the existing library,
    · optimization of data packet processing,
    · use of concurrent processing,
    · preparation of the application as a Docker image,
    · configuration of the test environment,
    · setup of the required services and virtual machines.

  • Solution

The Edge One Solutions team prepared the Proof of Concept as an application packaged in a Docker image. This approach simplified the process of running, testing, and moving the solution between environments.

As part of the project, AMQP support was implemented to enable communication between system components. The team also developed proxy functionality, allowing packets to be forwarded to the receiving server in line with the assumptions of the modernized architecture.

A key part of the work was performance optimization. The team used concurrent processing to increase the number of packets handled by the application within a given time frame. At the same time, compatibility with the existing library was maintained, reducing the risk associated with further system development.

  • Project significance for the Automotive and e-Commerce sector

Automotive marketplaces must combine the convenience of online shopping with the complexity of product data, suppliers, and stock availability. In the case of automotive parts and accessories, users expect not only a wide product range, but also accurate information about availability and expected delivery time.

In projects of this type, API integrations, stable backend architecture, a clear frontend, and a well-designed purchasing process are especially important. The more suppliers a platform supports, the more important data consistency, cart management, and process predictability become.

For automotive companies, marketplace development can be a way to scale sales, expand the product offering, and create a single digital access point to products from multiple partners.
