Application Migration to GCP for Orange | Edge1S Case Study

Migration of an Orange Application to Google Cloud Platform

Orange

Project overview

Client: OrangeSector: telecommunications / media / digital servicesModel:IT outsourcingArea: GCP / Kubernetes / IaC / CI/CD

Edge One Solutions supported Orange by providing IT specialists responsible for migrating an application to Google Cloud Platform.

The project included moving the application from virtual machines to Kubernetes, preparing infrastructure as code, and implementing a pipeline automating testing, building, and deployment.

Tools and technologies used

  • Challenge

Orange needed to migrate part of its system to Google Cloud Platform, starting with a seller competition application.

The key challenge was migrating an application based on a Spring backend and React frontend from virtual machines to Kubernetes.

The project also required preparing cloud infrastructure in an Infrastructure as Code model and creating a pipeline automating the build and deployment of new application versions after code changes.

  • Scope of work by Edge One Solutions

Edge One Solutions supported Orange by providing IT specialists responsible for application migration and infrastructure preparation in Google Cloud Platform.

The scope of support included moving the backend and frontend from virtual machines to Kubernetes and using managed Google Cloud services such as Kubernetes Engine, Cloud SQL, and Cloud Load Balancing.

The team also supported infrastructure as code preparation and created a CI/CD flow automating testing, building, and deployment of application updates.

Scrum and iterative software delivery process illustrated on a laptop.
  • Result

As part of the project, the seller competition application was migrated to Google Cloud Platform.

The Spring-based backend and React-based frontend were moved from virtual machines to Kubernetes, enabling better use of a scalable cloud environment.

The infrastructure was prepared in an Infrastructure as Code model, while the CI/CD pipeline enabled automated testing, building, and deployment of subsequent application versions after code changes.

    - Infrastructure as Code: By adopting an Infrastructure as Code model, the team automated and scaled the infrastructure using managed Google Cloud services such as Kubernetes Engine, Cloud SQL, and Cloud Load Balancing.

    - CI/CD Flow: A CI/CD flow was created to automate testing, building, and deploying app updates, allowing for smooth releases.

  • Project significance for telecommunications and cloud migration

In the telecommunications sector, applications supporting business processes must be stable, scalable, and ready for frequent changes driven by organizational needs.

The Orange project shows how cloud migration, Kubernetes, Infrastructure as Code, and CI/CD can support application modernization and improve the deployment of subsequent system versions.

For large organizations, a similar approach can reduce dependency on virtual machine-based infrastructure, increase environment flexibility, and accelerate business application delivery.
