How much does a software developer cost per hour? In 2026, the answer may be PLN 60, PLN 130 or more than PLN 200 per hour – and each of these figures can be correct. It depends on the type of specialist you need, their technology stack, seniority and the cooperation model.
There is one more distinction that often leads to misleading comparisons. A developer’s salary under an employment contract, a B2B contractor rate and the rate paid to an IT outsourcing provider are three different things. Comparing them directly can result in incorrect assumptions about the actual cost of a project.
In this article, we look at current IT market benchmarks, explain how to interpret developer rates and show what to consider when budgeting for a technology team.

Key takeaway: there is no single market-wide “developer rate”. Cost depends on seniority, technology, scope of responsibility, cooperation model and project conditions. Just as importantly, a specialist’s compensation is not the same as the client rate in IT outsourcing.
How much does a software developer cost per hour in 2026?
The B2B contracting market provides one of the clearest reference points for hourly developer rates because compensation can be directly linked to the number of hours worked.
According to No Fluff Jobs data from the last six months, median salary ranges across the IT market are PLN 15,000–21,840 net + VAT per month on B2B contracts. If we convert these monthly figures into an approximate 160-hour month, the result is around PLN 94–137 net + VAT per hour.
Important:
PLN 94–137 per hour is not a universal developer price list or an outsourcing provider rate. It is simply an hourly equivalent of broad monthly B2B salary ranges across the IT market. A Senior Developer, Software Architect, AI Engineer or specialist in a niche technology may cost significantly more.
The Hays IT Contracting Salary Guide 2026 also uses hourly contractor rates and compares minimum, maximum and optimal net rates across more than 100 technology roles. This illustrates why a single average for the entire IT market provides only a limited picture.
Developer salary, B2B rate and client rate are not the same thing
This is the most important distinction when analyzing the cost of IT specialists.
| Type of rate | What does it mean? | What does it not show? |
|---|---|---|
| Employment salary | The employee’s monthly gross salary. | The full employer cost, recruitment, paid leave, equipment or workstation costs. |
| B2B contractor rate | The net + VAT amount invoiced by the specialist. | It is not equivalent to the contractor’s take-home income or the rate charged by an outsourcing provider. |
| Staff Augmentation rate | The client’s cost of accessing a specific specialist as part of an outsourcing service. | It cannot be directly compared with an employee salary or contractor invoice rate. |
| Dedicated Team / project rate | The cost of a team or a defined delivery scope. | The hourly rate of one developer does not represent the total solution cost. |
Red flag: comparing a contractor invoicing PLN 150/hour with an outsourcing provider offering a specialist at PLN 150/hour. These are two different cost categories and usually include different responsibilities and risk.
How much does a Junior, Mid or Senior Developer cost per hour?
Seniority remains one of the main factors affecting developer rates, but years of experience alone do not determine a specialist’s level. Independence, architectural responsibility, problem-solving ability, domain expertise and collaboration skills also matter.
No Fluff Jobs data for Frontend Developers from the first half of 2026 provides a useful current example.
| Level | Monthly B2B range | Approx. hourly equivalent / 160 h |
|---|---|---|
| Junior | PLN 6,000–10,000 net + VAT | approx. PLN 38–63/h |
| Mid | PLN 16,800–20,380 net + VAT | approx. PLN 105–127/h |
| Senior | PLN 21,840–26,880 net + VAT | approx. PLN 137–168/h |

These ranges should not be automatically applied to every technology. A Senior AI Engineer, DevOps Engineer or Software Architect may fall into a very different range than a Senior Frontend Developer.
How much does a developer cost depending on technology?
Technology matters, but it should not be considered separately from seniority and project complexity. A Java Developer maintaining a straightforward application may have a different rate than a Java Developer responsible for the architecture of a banking platform, even though both roles use the same technology.
The table below shows an approximate hourly equivalent of reported monthly B2B compensation for selected technology categories. The values were calculated using data from the Just Join IT Salary Report 2026 and a 160-hour month.
| Technology / area | Junior | Mid | Senior |
|---|---|---|---|
| Java | approx. PLN 66/h | approx. PLN 129/h | approx. PLN 158/h |
| JavaScript | approx. PLN 50/h | approx. PLN 110/h | approx. PLN 147/h |
| Python | approx. PLN 61/h | approx. PLN 123/h | approx. PLN 159/h |
| .NET | approx. PLN 56/h | approx. PLN 118/h | approx. PLN 147/h |
| Mobile | approx. PLN 75/h | approx. PLN 116/h | approx. PLN 147/h |
| C/C++ | approx. PLN 61/h | approx. PLN 118/h | approx. PLN 150/h |
| AI / ML | approx. PLN 61/h | approx. PLN 136/h | approx. PLN 169/h |

How much does a React, Angular or Vue developer cost?
We do not recommend assigning rigid rates based only on the framework. React, Angular and Vue are part of the broader JavaScript and Frontend market, and the final rate is often influenced more by seniority, TypeScript expertise, frontend architecture, testing, performance, accessibility and backend integration than by the framework name itself.
How much does a Node.js developer cost?
Node.js should not be priced based only on the runtime either. A Backend Developer working with Node.js may build a straightforward API or take responsibility for scalable services, integrations, cloud architecture and distributed systems. The scope of responsibility therefore has a major impact on the final rate.
How much do other IT specialists cost?
Software development projects rarely consist only of developers. Budgets may also include QA Engineers, DevOps specialists, Data Engineers, analysts or Project Managers.
| Role | Mid – approx. B2B hourly equivalent | Senior – approx. B2B hourly equivalent |
|---|---|---|
| Testing / QA | approx. PLN 96/h | approx. PLN 131/h |
| DevOps | approx. PLN 137/h | approx. PLN 167/h |
| Data | approx. PLN 131/h | approx. PLN 168/h |
| Project Management | approx. PLN 105/h | approx. PLN 144/h |

Roles also include very different specializations. A Manual Tester and a Senior Automation QA Engineer are not the same profile, just as a cloud administrator and a Senior DevOps/SRE specialist are not directly comparable. When budgeting for a team, it is therefore better to start with the required skills and responsibilities rather than the job title alone.
How much does a developer cost in Warsaw, Krakow, Wroclaw, Poznan or Gdansk?
A few years ago, location was one of the main ways of segmenting IT salaries. Today, assigning one fixed rate to a specific city is much less useful.
A developer living in Krakow may work remotely for a company in Warsaw or for an international client. At the same time, a project requiring regular office presence in a specific city may have access to a smaller talent pool than a fully remote project.
For this reason, we do not publish separate tables such as “Warsaw = X PLN, Krakow = Y PLN”. Such benchmarks become outdated quickly and can be more misleading than useful. For a specific project, skills, seniority, working model and specialist availability are usually more relevant.
B2B, employment or outsourcing – how should developer costs be compared?
How much does a developer cost on a B2B contract?
B2B contracts make hourly comparisons relatively straightforward because the contractor may invoice based on hours worked. However, current market rates differ significantly between projects, with particularly large gaps between junior, mid-level and senior specialists.
There is no basis for treating one figure – for example PLN 500/hour – as the typical B2B developer rate. Rates at this level may appear in highly specialized consulting or niche expert work, but they are not representative of the broader software development market.
How much does a developer cost under an employment contract?
With an employment contract, simply dividing monthly gross salary by working hours does not show the full cost to the employer. Employer contributions, paid leave, absences, recruitment, onboarding, hardware, benefits and workplace costs also need to be considered.
For business analysis, it is therefore more useful to compare the total cost of acquiring and maintaining a capability rather than the hourly equivalent of salary alone.
How much does a developer cost in IT outsourcing?
The client rate in outsourcing or Staff Augmentation is a different category from a contractor’s compensation. Depending on the cooperation model, it may include specialist sourcing, the project assignment process, administrative support, continuity of cooperation, availability risk and the provider’s responsibility for delivering the agreed service.
When asking a provider about a specialist rate, it is also worth checking:
- what exactly is included in the price,
- how quickly the specialist can join the project,
- how replacement works if the specialist becomes unavailable,
- whether the rate changes for longer engagements,
- what skills and seniority you actually receive,
- who is responsible for delivery and managing the specialist’s work.
What really affects a software developer’s hourly rate?
Technology and years of experience are only the starting point. Several other factors influence the actual cost of a specialist.
- Seniority and independence – a specialist capable of making architectural decisions independently will usually cost more than someone requiring constant support.
- Skill availability – a niche technology stack or an unusual combination of competencies can increase the rate.
- Domain knowledge – experience in banking, insurance, healthcare or industrial systems can provide significant project value.
- Scope of responsibility – implementing individual tasks is different from owning a module, mentoring other engineers or making architectural decisions.
- Security and compliance – projects with stricter security requirements may require more experienced specialists.
- Working model – on-site requirements, specific time zones or unusual working hours may reduce the available talent pool.
- Engagement length – a stable long-term engagement may be priced differently from a short expert assignment.
- Time to staff the project – the more demanding the profile and the shorter the start-up window, the harder it becomes to optimize purely for the lowest rate.
Does a lower hourly rate mean a cheaper project?
Not necessarily. The hourly rate is only one component of the total project cost.
Project cost ≠ hourly rate × number of developers
If a more experienced developer costs 30% more per hour but can identify architectural issues earlier, reduce rework or prevent production defects, the higher hourly rate may still result in a lower total project cost.
When comparing offers, it therefore makes sense to consider not only the rate, but also:
- team productivity and independence,
- onboarding time,
- rework and defect risk,
- technical quality,
- time to deliver functionality,
- long-term maintenance cost.
The cheapest hour does not necessarily mean the cheapest delivery. For technology budget owners, the relationship between cost, delivery time, quality and risk is usually more important.

FAQ – software developer rates in 2026
Summary: how much does a software developer really cost per hour?
The answer depends on what we actually mean by the “cost of a developer”. An employee salary, a B2B contractor rate and the price of a specialist delivered through an outsourcing model are not the same thing.
When budgeting for a project, it is worth considering seniority, technology, scope of responsibility, availability of skills, cooperation model and expected outcome at the same time.
An hourly rate is a useful market benchmark, but a poor measure of total project cost. For a purchasing decision, the more important question is: how much will it cost to deliver the expected result within the required timeline and quality?
